Charity work in Torquay

Last Christmas, a group of our students got stuck in to volunteering in their local community, and they made a real difference to families in the local area. We’re really proud of all these efforts!

Christmas is a time of year which is usually full of fun, family and festivities. It’s also a really important part of our programmes, where our students can experience Christmas in a different country, and learn about different traditions and activities.

But for some people, Christmas isn’t an easy time of year – and we’re really proud of our students for choosing to make such a positive difference to families who were struggling this Christmas. It’s good to give something back and to help others – and that’s exactly what our students did in the run up to Christmas 2023!

Volunteering opportunities are a great way for our students to get involved in the local community, as well as a chance to learn new skills and meet new people.

From collecting and compiling food parcels to preparing donated gifts through a specialised present-wrapping service, our students spent the day helping a local charity organisation which supports families who struggle without free school meals over the school holidays. Students also helped young local children to write their letters to Santa and got involved in some arts and crafts – and we even had some elves helping out at Santa’s grotto!

Our Regional Manager also played a big role in organising all of this, and many of our host families also contributed – so a shout out undoubtedly goes to them as well.

Volunteering opportunities are a great way for our students to get involved in the local community, as well as a chance to learn new skills and meet new people. We’re always happy to help students find voluntary roles and activities in their local area, and such actions by students can help to make a huge difference to the local community, too.

A big thank you and well done to everyone who was involved in this festive volunteering!
